IGNITE Inspiration: About the Other Night...

Hi everyone!  Today's look is actually from an event I went to with my other half for his job.  Normally, being the hermit that I am, I prefer to sit these things out but I figured I'd give it a go this time around.
I had a few things in my closet that I considered wearing but decided to give myself  a little challenge and find something at one of the local thrift stores.  This is what I found!  It's actually a top but I wore it as a dress and best of all, it was ready to wear- no alterations needed.  Paired with my fav black heels and a chunky multi-strand necklace (from way back) my grand total was....are you ready for this? TWELVE dollars!  Yes!

Excuse the pics...we were in a hurry and just snapped a few with the iphone but you get the gist. Hooray for good thrift store finds!

Shirt Dress: thrifted, but this would be great (and versatile!) / necklace: old but would love this one or this one / stacked rings: old, similar here / cutout heels: here

Monday Motivation: It's better to be at the bottom...

                                                                                                       thedailyquotes.com
Welcome back from the weekend, lovelies!

When I read this quote, it really made me stop and think.  There have been several times in my adult life where I questioned whether or not my career choices were "right" for me.  At times, I felt at the top of my ladder (benefits, job security, etc).  I was good at my job and liked the people I worked with but there was always this feeling that I was destined for something else- there was another ladder out there for me.  However, the thought of starting over again (and possibly coming to the same conclusion) kept me from moving on.  Yes, it was comfortable to stay put but for me, it wasn't sustainable as long as I was experiencing those restless feelings.
Fast forward: a few career changes later, I still doubt myself and am still not sure exactly where I'm going but I'm happy finding my way and being true to myself.  Being at the bottom of this ladder isn't so bad- in fact, at this moment, it's just where I want to be.

Here's to finding the ladder you want to climb!

Monday Motivation: Don't let people rent space...

Happy Monday!  I chose this quote today because it's something that I struggle with as I'm sure most of us do.  I often catch myself mulling over the events of a stressful day at work hours after I come home or replay a scenario where I feel I was wronged over and over again in my head.   But it's almost always for too long and results in more frustration.  Been there, huh?

While I've gotten a lot better at picking my battles, I still have to make a very conscious effort to let the insignificant things (and people) fall by the wayside.  Negative or toxic people only have as much power as you give them.  Their presence might not be something you can control but you CAN control how you let them effect you.  Try to nip it in the bud before that snowball of frustration has a chance to grow.  You'll thank yourself later.

This week's goal:  I will not only make more space to accept good tenants- I will BE a good tenant as well.

Have a great week! xoxo

#TBT Those Charming 80's

                                                                                        ColorSoGood, Etsy

I realize, I'm probably dating myself with this post but what the hey.   These charm bracelets were probably my first foray into the world of accessorizing.  These, friends, were the ORIGINAL charm bracelets....before the likes of Pandora jewelry and, IMHO, much more interesting.  Ah, the 80s.

4 words: Blackberry. Lemon. Ice. Cream.

There are two kinds of people in this world when it comes to dessert: 1) those who, like me, require some form of chocolate to even merit being called a dessert and 2) fruit eaters.  Yes, you know who you are, forgoing the brownie sundae option on the menu in favor of the "medley of seasonal fruit".  ::sigh::  I speak from experience.  Yes, I am married to a fruit eater.

Luckily, I am the primary cook in our household and usually plan desserts according to my taste (hello, chocolate chip/walnut blondies).  But every now and then I come across a non-chocolate recipe that even I can't help but to try out.  This is one of them.

For the record, I didn't realize until after I took these pics that my nail polish was almost identical in color to this ice cream.  Purely coincidence, I swear!

This recipe is from Food52.com.  It was so easy and only has 4 ingredients!  I made it with lemon juice as per the recipe but I'm sure lime would taste great too.  Maybe add some blueberries?  Anyway, my husband, being the fruit eater he is, was subject to being my taste tester, as he usually is.  Poor thing.

The result?  It's a keeper!  The citrus lightens it up but the condensed milk makes it super creamy.  My other half is happy to eat it as is, but me?  I have to add a little something to mine ;)  Gotta stay true to myself, right?

What about you?  When it comes to desserts, are you #teamchocolate or #teamfruit?

IGNITE Inspiration: Classic Navy & White

Hi lovelies!

I have been on a quest to find the perfect white flares for years.  YEARS, I tell ya!  I've gone through a few pairs but they ended up either being too thin a fabric (hello, see through!), too fitted or not fitted enough.  But....I have finally found them!  The quest is over.  Done.  I actually ran across these when I was looking for something else.  Isn't that how it ALWAYS happens?  They are high-waisted and are the perfect length.  That is, when I wear them with heels- story of my life...womp, womp...LOL!

White flares: here / Navy tank: here / Rose gold bangles: here (on sale!) / Scarf: here (also on sale!) / Wedges (old): these and these are cute / Sunnies (old): similar here but I love these too

What about you guys?  Have you been unlucky in the search for a particular item?  Share, share!

Monday Motivation: Some people are so poor...

Good morning guys!

It's the beginning of another week.  A chance to start fresh, mind and body.  In a world where keeping up with the Kardashians Jones' has become a way of life, it's important to remember what real abundance is: friends, family and health.  It's when we can recognize that we have (and truly appreciate) these gifts that we know just how rich we really are.  Cherish and nurture your relationships, take care of yourself and your wealth will multiply exponentially.  Have a great week, lovelies!

xoxo

#TBT Red w/ ruffles

Ohh goodness.  This must have been when I was about 6 or 7 years old.  If it had ruffles, ribbons, sequins or any kind of "free gift" attached to it, I HAD to have it.  I think the purse was a Liz Claiborne that I swiped from my sister's closet.  The shoes, pinwheels, naturally.
Your turn!  What were your favorite trends from your childhood?  Share!  Share!

Bonjour mes amis!

Hi Lovelies!

I just realized I forgot to post about these!  My sister from across the pond brought them for me when she and my niece visited for Mother's Day.  Look at her, fresh to death. Lol! I originally discovered them the last time I visited France.  Apparently they're quite common and can be found at any drugstore there (and here too!) but let me tell you- they smell HEAVENLY!  Have you ever seen/used these?  Here are just a few of the scents that I prefer but they all smell amazingly decadent. And only about $6 US each!  I usually don't dawdle in the shower but any time I use these, it easily adds another 10 minutes or so to my routine (they smell that good) = hello, prune fingers!  lol...so worth it though!

Clockwise from top left: Cotton & Poppy, Lemon Verbena, Orange Blossom, White Peach & Nectarine.  I haven't tried any other products from this line yet but if you have let us know what you think!

IGNITE Inspiration: It Was All a Dream

Hi lovelies!

Today's look features lots of fun pieces and is perfect for a day of bumming around the city.  I came across this tee at Walmart of all places.  And in the men's section, no less!  As soon as I saw it, I had to have it.  I couldn't pass up the quirky tribute to the late, great B.I.G.!  I rolled the sleeves here but I think eventually, I'll make an actual tank out of it. The bag was gifted to me by my sister who picked it out for me on a trip to Rome.  It is so soft and the color is so cheery.  Perfect for spring/summer.   Both booties and bangle are old but still get great rotation in my wardrobe.

Novelty B.I.G tee: no longer available but similar here or here / cutoffs: similar here / booties: old but love these / cross body bag: gifted but similar here or here / bangle: old but I wouldn't mind these / belt: here

#TBT --> #FBF (Flash Back Friday)

Happy Friday, everyone!

I had a crazy busy day yesterday and didn't have time to post a #TBT pic so here it is.  This was taken on a trip we took to Mexico City back in '07.  Oh lawd, was this really 8 years ago??  One of the best vacations thus far.  Have a wonderful weekend lovelies!

Love & Toast

Hi guys!  Can someone tell me why it was ridiculously cool out the past few days? It's June for cryin' out loud.  Nevertheless, if you live in the northeast, you couldn't be happier to see the sunshine after a few days of cold rain not to mention the relentlessly snowy winter we had.  My poor hands, they suffered so.  They were so dry.  I needed something small that I could keep in my bag and most of all, absorb quickly!  Honestly, I'd sooner have dry skin than slimy skin.  Yeah, I'm picky like that.

I didn't mean to find this little tube of goodness.  We just kinda crossed paths when I was buying something else.  Isn't she darling?  I'm a sucker for good packaging (check out the details on the flaps of the box too!) so of course I was drawn to her.  I know what you're thinking:  Yeah, it's a cute package but how good is the stuff inside?  It's great!  It smells delicious and is completely absorbed within a few seconds. These go for $9 a pop, which is great if it means I don't have to smear everything I touch after putting it on! I bought the Sugar Grapefruit (citrusy and sweet) but I loved Paper Flower and Gin Blossom too.

Tell me, what is your must-have, on-the-go moisturizer?  Share in the comments!

Monday Motivation: The Creative Adult...

It's so easy to get caught up in what's "in" and what's "out".  Forget all that and take risks and OWN them!  Have a creative day, lovelies!
