Last weekend, we had the pleasure of not only getting together with lots of family (old and new) for Thanksgiving but also attending my cousin's beautiful wedding!
Of course, I waited until the last minute to think about what to wear only to find that the dress I was thinking of wearing was in the end too summery for an end-of-November wedding! Most people would just give in and buy a dress at their favorite store, no muss, no fuss, right?
But not me...oh nooo. I decided this would be a great opportunity to challenge myself- yet again. Yes, I would see if I could find something suitable for a wedding at a second-hand store.
So less than 24 hours before we were to leave for our trip, there I was sifting through the racks. I must have tried on about 20 dresses and was cursing myself once again for not only waiting until the last minute but also giving myself ANOTHER obstacle to tackle when I happened upon not one but TWO dresses that just clicked.
I bought both. You know, so I could have options. ;-P And my total for both dresses came to $32!
As you can see, I ended up wearing the red dress and was super happy with my choice. It was comfy, flattering and best of all, a great price at $20.
Bonus: this dress was from Zara with the original sales tag still attached. Original price? $79.99. Score! I paired it with my favorite black heels and some gold dangly earrings from F21. Total spent on this outfit was $24.90.
As for the black dress? I have an empty spot in my winter wardrobe that's just right for a cooler-weather LBD. Check out a close up of the fabric:
The moral of the story: With a little patience and persistence it IS possible to find semi-formal wear at your local thrift store. I would recommend starting your search a little earlier than I did but as you can see, there are little gems hiding in those racks. Just gotta look!
What about you guys? I want to hear about your thrift store success stories!
