IGNITE Inspiration: Multi-Colored Moccasins

Last week, I told you guys about my newest comfy shoes I scored for $6 at Kmart in this post.  I've worn them a few times now (on warmer days) and figured I'd show you how I rocked them.

Please excuse the crazy fly-aways.  It's been a little windy lately-- always great for my wisps of baby hair that surrounds my face.  C'est la vie.

The beauty of these moccasins is that because of their color, you can literally pair them with ANYTHING.  I've worn them with blue skinny jeans and a Pepto-Bismol pink sweater for a serious color boost but this time, I wanted all focus to be on the shoes and paired it with a simple denim button-up layered under a chunky black sweater and black skinnies.

Yeah, I wore this exact outfit last weekend too.  What can I say?  It's perfect for meandering around the city on a chilly but thankfully-not-bone-chilling-cold day.

Like this look?  Here's where I got everything:

Moccasins: Kmart // Jeans: Old Navy (similar) // Denim shirt: F21 (similar) // Sweater: H&M (similar)

** The moccasins are full price on the Kmart website but I think it's worth checking out your local Kmart first to see if you can snag them on sale like I did!

Fairy Tale Fashion

Good morning, everyone!  Last weekend, I was in serious need of some r&r after a long work week, as I'm sure we can all relate to every once in a while.  But instead of getting sucked into couch potato land (as tempting as that can be), we visited one of my favorite museums- the Museum at FIT.

The exhibit is called Fairy Tale Fashion and features (mostly) modern day interpretations of traditional fairy tales.

For the next few days, I'll be posting pics from the exhibit on our Facebook and Instagram
( @ignite_style ) feeds.  Check in (and follow!) to see if you can name the Fairy Tale associated with each pic!

For more on the exhibit, visit the online exhibit.  But no cheating! :P

See you soon!

Watch How Designers at Dior Craft the Prettiest Pleats via Refinery29

ICYMI, last week I posted this video showing how a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti pumps is made.  Wasn't it mesmerizing?

Well, I can never get enough of watching masters at their craft, especially when it involves working with their hands building or creating something out of nothing-- hello, Bob Ross and his happy little clouds!  LOL.

I guess it's because of this that I also loved New Yankee Workshop, with Norm Abrams.  Yeah, he was the shit.  Look it up, you'll see!

Anyway, here is a vid from Refinery 29 on making the prettiest lighter-than-air, pleated pieces you've ever seen (from Dior).

After seeing just what goes into making one of these couture pieces, is it really any wonder why they are so expensive?

 Just beautiful!

#TuesdayShoesday: Multi-Colored Moccasins

Never underestimate big box stores.  While I love F21 and H&M, some of my best finds have come from Walmart, and in this case Kmart!

(ICYMI, more of my big box bargains here and here.)

These were a complete impulse buy, which is funny because normally I shun the typical impulse buys like candy or gum.  But put me near a great bargain on shoes?  BAM!  There's my impulse buy.

I don't remember what I was picking up at the time but on my way to the register, I passed these cuties.  They stood out from the sea of heavy black winter shoes that lined the aisles so I took a peek at the price tag and found them on sale for $6!  (I found them here for full price but it's def worth checking to see if they're on sale at your local store too).

They're lined with faux shearling and have a fairly thick rubber sole which makes them pretty warm and comfy.

The pattern and color are just so sunny and bright- much needed on these late winter days when the clouds and overcast seem like a constant presence.

They're pretty well-constructed and VERY comfortable.  I pair them with dark or black skinny jeans and whatever color shirt- they go with everything!  More on that in a future post...

Here they are out on the town!  We ran into a random street fair in Chinatown.  Confetti covered the streets and was just so cheery.  That's the beauty of NYC, you never know what you're gonna find.  Plus, we got to play with this little guy...

And I do mean play....he came into the restaurant where we were eating and "bit" me as he danced by...so cute!  Apparently, this is considered to be good luck!

Such a great day.  I credit the shoes  :)

Weekend Web Look: Spiked

One week closer to spring!  I don't know about you but I'm past ready for warmer temperatures and more opportunities to sport cute outfits like this!

Just look at those heels!  Love the cheery colors,  T-strap and gold studs.  They truly steal the show and complement the statement necklace perfectly.  The navy jumpsuit provides a neutral backdrop which allows the accessories to take center stage.

Another cute look for under $100.  What's not to love?  Want to get it for yourself?

Jumpsuit: H&M // Shoes: GoJane // Necklace: F21 // Ring: F21 (set of 2)

Enjoy this weekend!  Check back in next week for more style updates!

#TuesdayShoesday: The Art of the Pair

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I first saw this at an exhibit called Killer Heels at the Brooklyn Museum here in NYC.  It was an awesome exhibit but this video is what I remember most out of everything.  I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

Talk about white glove service!  But really though...There's something about watching a master at his/her craft that is so calming, almost mesmerizing, don't you think?

Now, I am not one to discriminate when it comes to shoes.  My closet is full of them---mostly all under $100.  But there's no denying that these beauts certainly deserve the higher price tag.

What do you think?  How much is too much to spend on a pair of Z's?

Valentine's Day Inspiration: Dinner Date

Last week, we shared a cute Valentine's Day Brunch date look.  This week, we've got you covered for that special V-Day dinner date!

I saw this dress in black at H&M a few weeks ago and thought it was adorable.  It looks like they've now made it in pink, which is even cuter!  I love the double shoulder straps and dropped waist.

Granted, pink dresses are not as versatile as LBDs but they are absolutely perfect for special occasions.  Leopard print heels add the perfect amount of sass while the closed toe is good for cooler February temps.   The simple drop earrings are a steal at $4.90!

Have an enchanted weekend, lovelies!

#TBT 100 Years of Fashion: Workout Style via Mode.com

Have you guys checked out mode.com's 100 Years of Fashion Series?  This one is about Workout style and oh man, it's a doosie...

That 70s leotard was the game changer, it seems.  And those 80s slouch socks (2 pairs, of course)...lawd!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I had a *very* similar get-up to the 90s one.  I took gymnastics at the time...my leotard was black and I wore a pair of black and white geometric biker shorts....underneath the leotard.  Thank God I don't have a pic of that.  But even if I did, I wouldn't show it!

So let's hear it... if you had to pick- which decade (before the 2000s) would you re-visit?  I think I'd have to go with 80s....ugly as hell but at least it's fun!

It's National Umbrella Day!

Who knew?  Personally, I'm glad.  Umbrellas are the most under appreciated, overlooked accessory :(
Here in NYC, we're a city of pedestrians so a good umbrella is absolutely essential!  And I'm not talking about the $2 kind that break within 5 minutes of buying it...you know the ones I'm talking about...

A bright, fun umbrella (like this one) is just what any gloomy day needs.  And paired with stylish rain gear (like this and this) you're sure to stand out.

Now if only I could get one of these guys to follow me around:

 Ah, if only.

Anyway, I'll leave you on this National Umbrella Day with a pic of this lovely art installation in Agueda, Portugal:

Has anyone been here?  What a perfectly lovely way to spend a summer afternoon :)

Tuesday Shoesday: Runway Mishaps

LOL!  When you see things like this....

If I'm being honest, my first instinct is to laugh....you had *one* job!  But then again, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to walk in some of these shoes either.

Why, oh why, do the models clap during/after the fall?  Leave that to your audience, if they feel so inclined.  Awkward!!

Then again, I shouldn't be talking.  One of my most embarrassing falls ever occurred when I was wearing rubber flip flops....yeah...

How about you guys?  Any footwear blunders?

Valentine's Day Inspiration: Brunch Date

This year, Valentine's Day is on a Sunday!  You know what that means....brunch date!  Celebrate the whole day (not just dinner) starting with this cute look:

And of course, all for under $100!  Love the playful jumpsuit and sexy, strappy heels.  Top it off with a cute floppy hat and you're ready to go.  Best part?  The shoes and accessories can be used with so many other outfits...gotta love those multi-purpose items.

Another look to come....stay tuned!

#TBT Matchy Matchy

Throwin' it waaaay back.  Judging from the haircut, I'm guessing I was about 6 or 7 years old here--  You know, just being me in my matching pink coat and pants.  Not sure what our neighborhood friend was trying to do but looks like I wasn't interested.

What an angel.  Luckily, I haven't changed a bit.  =0P

Thankfully, my wardrobe choices have!

IGNITE Style Radar: Opal

A while back I posted about the growing popularity of geodes and semi-precious stones.  (ICYMI, here you go!)  And since then am happy to see them all over the place- they're so pretty!

On our radar now?  OPAL.

I've always loved opals.  The first time I ever laid eyes on one was while I was going through  my mom's jewelry box as a child.  She had/has this amazing ring with a beautiful opal surrounded by sapphires.  I loved it so much, I laid claim to it right then and there and informed my mother of my wishes to have it passed down to me (not my sister) LOL!  I was such a sweet child.

Anyway, there are lots of different types of opals (crystal, synthetic, created and on and on).  Some are milky and white and some are darker, which I prefer since the flecks of color seem to stand out more (even though according to this, the darker ones are more likely to be fake).  The whiter ones remind me of mother of pearl but with more depth.  Real or not, hey are just so feminine and mysterious.

So you can imagine my delight when I found this ring set at H&M...

Quartz AND opal?  Yes, please!  I found these beauts on Etsy from Sarradise.  I can't imagine they're real but really, who cares?  They're just darling:

This one from EldorTinaJewelry on Etsy is so over the top but I love it:

I'll be keeping my eye out for more of these colorful gems.  What do you guys think?  Will these be hot or no?  We shall see!!

Tuesday ShoesDay! Striped and Stacked

In case you couldn't tell...I love stripes.  Specifically black and white stripes.  It's pretty obvious- see here and here.

So when I came across these cuties on GoJane I couldn't resist...

Of course the real focal point is those stripes but the platform and ankle straps are great too.

Double trouble!  It's still a little too slushy out to wear these but looking forward to taking these out for a spin!

If you'd like to add these cuties to your collection you can get them at GoJane.com or by clicking here.

Happy ShoesDay everyone!

IGNITE Inspiration: A Cat and a Hat

If you've been following me from the beginning, you'll remember that I had pretty long locks a few months back.  See?  That was before I did the unthinkable and chopped it all off.  Nothing unusual for me since I like a drastic change every now and then but I *was* nervous that the shorter 'do wouldn't go so well with hats.  I love me some hats.  I bought this one when I had my longer tresses but was happy to see that it still worked with my shorter hair.

The sweater is old and I can't even remember where I got it.  Either H&M or F21, I'm sure.  I couldn't resist the embroidery.  Fierce yet understated at the same time--- just my style!  Here's a close up:

Isn't she cute?  Kinda like the Kenzo shirts so popular a few years back but without all the pattern and color.  The plaid bracelet is one of my all-time favs.  I picked it up on a trip to Brooks Brothers (with the hubs) a long time ago.  I don't know if it was for men or not.  All I knew was I liked it, it was on sale and it would be mine.  Done deal.

Since there were already two focal points in this outfit, I paired it with a classic white button up, dark skinny jeans and black booties.

This one is hard to link since a lot of the pieces are old but let's try:

Hat: old F21 but I like this one // Sweater: old** // Button-up: H&M   // Jeans: F21 // Booties: old, similar here // Bracelet: old, similar here or here (beaded option)

**if anyone finds this top, let me know!
